QuBit and HFT Recap: 2/22 and 2/29

After a hiatus last week (mostly due to a lot of work), we're back, so here's a (delayed) double recap of last week's tournament QuBit @ High Technology High School and this week's tournament HFT @ NYU, which both featured some of the strongest fields we'll see this year!

Millburn A: Millburn went undefeated at both tournaments, taking first over East Brunswick B. They put up a stellar 23.88 PPB at QuBit with 504 PPG, catapulting them to the 2nd ranked team in the country. Dean Ah Now lead the team with 119 PPG at QuBit and 100 PPG at NYU, supported by science specialist Ben Hu, who had 51 PPG and 45 PPG at QuBit and NYU.

East Brunswick: East Brunswick A fell victim to a circle of death at QuBit, losing to Ilium and Hotchkiss in prelims before taking tough losses to Ridgewood and State College in playoffs. Jackson Lee put up 77 PPG on 31 powers, leading the team in scoring. The team fared better at NYU, going 8-3, only losing close games to Millburn, Hunter, and their split B team, again led in scoring by Jackson.

East Brunswick B took second at both tournaments with balanced scoring at QuBit (Josh Yi, 40.5 PPG, Jeffrey Han, 34 PPG, David Ovetsky, 31.5 PPG) and led by Josh with 67 PPG at HFT. The team lost close games to State College, Millburn and Hunter A at QuBit, and fell only to Millburn at NYU.

Tenafly: Tenafly A took 5th at QuBit, led by FA specialist Andrew Hau's 45 PPG and Juno Lee's 39 PPG, losing close games to Ridgewood and Millburn. They had a tough day in one of two circles of death at NYU, though Andrew and Juno combined for 118 PPG. They lost to East Brunswick B, Dorman (South Carolina) and a close game to High Tech A in prelims but went 3-0 in convincing fashion in playoffs.

Ridgewood: Ridgewood went 6-1 in prelims at QuBit but failed to make it out of a circle of death with Tenafly and Hunter A, but went 2-0 in playoffs. Philip Terman and Aiden Dartley had 68 PPG and 51 PPG respectively. At NYU, Ridgewood took 6th, led by Philip's 102 PPG. They went 6-2 in prelims before faltering in playoffs, but put up a strong performance overall.

Other teams:

Livingston fielded a team with only one A team member, but went 4-5 at QuBit led by lit specialist Rosa Xia's 66 PPG.

High Tech: High Tech A, missing much of their A team, had a tough day at NYU with close losses to championship bracket teams, but they bounced back to sweep their consolation games. Max Brodsky and Alexander Wu led the team in scoring. High Tech B went 4-4 in prelims, but stumbled to an 0-3 record in playoffs. Selena Liu and Sammy Hampel had 40 and 38 PPG, respectively.

Thank you to High Tech and NYU for hosting, and we look forward to seeing everyone as the season enters full swing!
